They recently shared the stage with the Airplane Boys at Soho House in Toronto and have been fortunate it enough to open for the likes of Ms. Lauryn Hill and Classified in the past. Their music has been described as sound like Kid Cudi with a live band.
So apparently my dude Mr. Knia is part of this documentary that’s premiering at HotDocs tonight. Juuuuuust found out about it. There’s two other screenings in the coming week though so I should be able to go check it out. Here’s the info:
“Black people have been the first at being last for a very long time. So now we’re trying just to get even.” – Alkatraz
Street rap thrives in the Toronto neighborhoods of Regent Park, Don Mills, and Jane and Finch where the music and lyrics are the voice of power and protest of marginalized communities growing up in urban poverty. Michelle Latimer makes her feature doc debut with a powerfully cinematic, observational doc that captures the realities of five Toronto rappers trying to escape the hustle of drugs and danger through their music. Featuring rap artists and producers Alkatraz, Trench, Alias, Knia and Keon, the film digs deeper than the usual portrait of the rap world as glamour, guns and swagger. Intimate scenes reveal a layered, complex portrait of their lives and dreams of achievement, their families, violence and conflicts with the cops to show what it takes to survive on the hyper-masculine streets of the hustle in the T.Dot. Footage from k-os’ time with The Roots the other night on Jimmy Fallon. Stupid dope indeed. Via StupidDope:
The Canadian MC known as K-os returned to the game recently with a brand new album, and followed that up with a dope performance at the Jimmy Fallon set. Today we get footage of his performance, where backed up by The Roots, K-os ran through his track “Try Again”.
K-os is no stranger to the stage, and showcased his talents rather well while being backed by The Roots, showing off his lyrical abilities, his songwriting skills, and more.
