And speaking of what’s poppin’ with JD Era…just realized that we haven’t posted the latest offering yet. Barz, Vol. 1.
Barz is something I’m giving the fans until I drop the main course this summer! Enjoy.

Ahhhhh….some clarity as to what’s poppin’ in the world of JD Era.
Noisey: What’s the situation with ICEH20? Do they still have a studio in Toronto?
JD Era: They never had a studio here. They have offices in Toronto, but I know they just set up a new studio in New Jersey. They’re trying to set up in a new location in Canada because they’re still pushing the Canada thing, but I’m the only Canadian artist on ICE20. But I’m signed on the Canadian side, it’s a different situation. With myself and Raekwon, we’ve always had our own situation, because at the end of the day – that’s the guy that put on for me. All of the years, no one really came and said “I’m gonna give you a shot” before Raekwon. He’s just gotta get his business together.
What do you mean?
It’s one thing to be a great rap artist, but it’s another to be a great business man. Being associated with Rae is a double-edged sword, because you get some new fans by association, but there’s a level of expectation that comes from those Wu fans supporting you. There was a point where I stopped and looked back on what I did with my Raekwon co-sign, and I wasn’t satisfied. I put in a lot of work, and I didn’t feel like it hit where it needed to hit. No Handouts did really well it terms of how it was received, but I still think the music could have been spread to a lot more people. My goal on Barz is to sit back and reevaluate this situation, and take certain things back into my own hands.
What kind of things would you like to see Raekwon do for you?
I need a push, a budget. In any dream situation for an artist, they want the budget to create, and they don’t want to do things that they had to do prior to getting signed. Just to be able to sustain a certain standard of living and to record. I respect Rae’s ear and his vision, I know what his thoughts are about everything, so that’s why I wasn’t surprised by those Breakfast Club comments. But I feel like if you’re in a position where you can get your message to people, and I’m your artist, then you should be speaking positively about me in public.
Raekwon’s a childhood hero, but there was a moment that happened where it forced me to reevaluate. No Handouts came out and we went on tour. We came back off the tour, which by the way we didn’t get paid for, and I’m in Rae’s office. I’m like “Yo we gotta print CDs cause we just came off the tour, so let’s promote!” He’s like “I’m not printing CDs.” I’m like “you’re not printing CDs? This is a record label, how are we gonna give people my music?” He’s just like “Yo you gotta figure that out, I’m not printing CDs.”
At the end of the day, people are not gonna make sacrifices for you just because you’re Raekwon.

Holeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
This song is heart-wrenchingly beautiful.
What a return this is for Kuya! If you know you’re sh*t when it comes to this T.O. R&B ish then you definitely know this big chune from back in ’04. The past 10 years though have seen 2 out of 4 of the group predominantly behind the scenes writing and producing for a handful of artists (and they’ve seen some great success with it – see below). Don’t know what the catalyst was for their official reunion but damn, it’s well overdue. And if this is the new direction then I only see great things in the near future. Hopefully the world is finally ready for a Filipino R&B group because this ish is the truth. The beauty these days is that they don’t need some wack label to “figure out how to market them”.
Hopefully this spreads as it should…
Kuya has reunited to share a powerful message with their new video. Life is short. Hold on to each and every moment. #StayHere.

About Kuya:
The word Kuya, meaning older brother in the filipino language, was chosen as the name for the group for a very specific reason – Kuya consists of a set of brothers, Sammy and Bobby (born and raised in Toronto), along with Johann and Jayson who hail from Montreal. The group was first introduced to the world in early 2003 with their VIDEOFACT funded video “Southern Girl” which was was featured on MuchVibe, and gained enough viewership to be certified “Vibe-Rated”. The group took a hiatus due to personal life decisions. It was then that Bobby and Sammy formed Kuya Productions.
About Kuya Productions:
Kuya Productions are a grammy nominated production team from Toronto. They have produced hits for international artists such as Nelly, Mase, Ginuwine, Nicole Scherzinger and Big Time Rush to name a few. They established their label by launching their first act JRDN. He went on to have 2 Gold Singles and 2 Juno Nominations in 2012.
Now reunited, Kuya will release their first single and video Stay Here in March 2014. They will release a second single in July 2014. The highly-anticipated and long awaited EP, is scheduled to be released September 2014.

#SmallSundaes returns with another one from Haley Small and her cousin McKenzie. It’s so crazy these days how an artist can record, mix and master the audio AND shoot their own little video. Must feel so rewarding to be able to just LET OUT the idea you have no matter how big or small. No pun intended.
Happy #SmallSundaes! Mckenzie and I decided to team up again for this cover of Jason Derulo’s “Stupid Love”! We decided to put a creative twist on it by singing the first have to music from Lil Wayne’s “Mirrors”. Hope you all enjoy it!

Official viz for new artist Pluto‘s official big-chune “Heart Speak”.
The melodic sound of Pluto’s first single entitled ‘Heart Speak” is simply a tale of emotional expression that may only be felt deep within the heart. This ‘life to pen” (real-time story) new age rhythm & blues song showcases the feelings of curiosity, excitement, passion and romance with a pinch of uncertainty.
