NEWS: Honest Music Signs Deal With EMI Label Services Canada!

Ty Harper | Community,Music,News | Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

Dope!

HONEST MUSIC SIGNS DEAL WITH EMI LABEL SERVICES CANADA

(Toronto, ON) Introduce yourself to Honest Music. A record label birthed from The Remix Project is now officially a part of the EMI family. Boasting a fresh, diverse roster of young artists, the label will provide music that connects not necessarily along the lines of genre, but with the hearts and minds of listeners on an instinctual level.

As a social enterprise, Honest Music acts as an extension of The Remix Project (charity # 82247 1421 RR0001), the world class charity focusing on cultural and creative incubation. The Remix Project was created in order to help level the playing field for young people from disadvantaged, marginalized and underserved communities and now Honest Music takes it one step further by providing a platform for the world class talent that is surfacing from this program. The label emerges as a testament to the power of The Remix Project and its alumni which even includes Label Manager Adiel Papa.

Honest Music prides itself on being entrenched in the culture of today while participating in the creation of tomorrow. It’s with this in mind that the label is committed not only to releasing music, but fostering artist development from the moment of inspiration to point of sale. While the label plans to release various singles throughout 2011, its first full key release will be the compilation ‘Get Money, Make Change. vol. 1′  Scheduled for August 2012, this release is tied in with The Remix Project’s key annual fundraising event “Give Money, Make Change”.

“This relationship we’re forging with EMI Music Canada is literally a dream come true,” comments Gavin Sheppard, Executive Director of The Remix Project/Honest Music.  “For years now, The Remix Project has been serving as a launch pad for some of the most important and successful young urban talent in the city of Toronto. EMI opens the door to the missing piece of the equation, infrastructure to support that talent’s emergence on the worldwide scene. We hope that Honest Music can be an exciting example of social enterprise here in Canada.”

“The spirit of the team and artists at Honest Music greatly impressed and inspired us,” says Deane Cameron, President of EMI Music Canada.  “We see a unique opportunity for our staff to offer significant expertise and mentorship to this label, and to help them monetize the exceptional talent coming out of The Remix Project.  We can’t wait to get started!”

For further insight into the heart of Honest Music’s vision, check out this short film narrated by actor Jamie Hector (The Wire, Heroes) and directed by Maurico Ruiz of Madruk Ent.
