Fakkkk I missed Tara Chaaaaaase!!!
Shouts to all the other ladies who blessed the stage though too. And CONGRATS to Honey Jam man, for real. Full review and video courtesy of Bad-Perm.com:
On February 3rd, Canada’s longest-running talent showcase, Honey Jam, hosted a reunion concert at the Harbourfront Centre. For the past 16 years, Honey Jam has provided a platform for some of Toronto’s most talented women to share their talents. Hosted by hip-hop veteran Michie Mee, the intimate show featured knock out performances by Honey Jam alumnae Kim Davis, Kellylee Evans, Saidah Baba Talibah and many more.
Bad-Perm’s own DJ Mel Boogie blessed the 1s and 2s and the crowd got an earful of classics from some of Toronto’s finest female performers. Eternia put on a high-energy performance with a special surprise appearance by fellow femcee Tara Chase. After spitting her classic “The Northside”, Chase joined Eternia in a rousing rendition of Lauryn Hill’s timeless “Miseducation” track, “Lost Ones”.
G98.7’s morning host Jemeni, who blessed the Honey Jam stage back in ’95, performed one of our favourites, “No More Dating DJs”.
Jully Black, looking fab with her glorious mane blown out to high heaven, did a stellar acoustic set, starting off with a tribute to the late Etta James. She nailed the James tune “Fool that I Am”, but the most memorable song was her uplifting anthem “Glass Ceiling”; in which she and D. Shon gave enough energy to rouse a stadium full of people!
Montreal native True kept the crowd’s spirits up with a killer cover of Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out”; and Michie Mee closed out the show with “Don’t Wanna Be your Slave” and of course, “Jamaican Funk”.
All of the ladies looked lovely and performed their hearts out, giving the crowd an energetic and inspiring evening of music, poetry, and happy memories of past Honey Jam productions. Great night!

Shouts to Different Kitchen for the reminder! Artists…don’t sleep.
]]>I am actually screening all the hip-hop submissions for NXNE 2012 so for those of you who see the value in performing at Canada’s equivalent to SXSW, a citywide music festival attended by over 300,000 people, get crackin’ now. Artists of all genres are, of course, welcome to submit applications but note: I’ll only be f-ckin’ with the applications tagged as being hip-hop genre submissions for NXNE.

Some straight spit from TRA aka Tha Rhyme Animal (would you expect anything less???).
]]>Born and raised in Toronto, Tha Rhyme Animal “T.R.A” developed his passion for hip-hop in the early nineteen eighties, when his older brother Lemont introduced him to the culture. T.R.A. used to watch Lemont spin records in their parents basement for hours on end, making mixtapes and recording demos on a four track recorder. T.R.A. would be captivated by the music and began studying the four founding elements of lyricism, graffiti, dj’ing and break dancing. In this video, TRA spits a hot 24 bars to Grafh’s 2009 banger “So Easy” Feat. Cassidy & Mr. Probz (Production: Veterano) while cruising around the city of Downtown Toronto. This is just a teaser from TRA who is just about ready to release his EP titled “Blunt Trauma” Mid Feb. This video was directed by Lyme Lyte Video.T.R.A is an artist under The SARS Network established in 2003 in the Toronto underground circuit and has sold over 100,000 CD’s independently online and all across Canada.
